Life Skills Sessions with a Difference
Delfites Attending a Class in the Mobile Classroom Van, an initiative by IFCI Ltd., India
On November 22, 2016 the students of DLF Public School opened the gates to a new way of learning. The Mobile Classroom Van Visit, an initiative of Expressions India is an innovative addition to the outreach for training on Health Life Skills and Wellbeing Programs. This program was special for the school as it aligned with our thought of creating well-formed minds rather than well filled minds. We feel, it is important that the learners from our school with a soul actualize not only as individuals but also as citizens. They must become aware and useful members of society contributing towards a higher and greater good: the public interest.
This experience of the Mobile Classroom gave our senior students an appropriate platform to practice the school’s ideology. The session conducted by the expert facilitator, Ms. Aparijita was highly informative, interactive in nature and beneficial for today’s generation in ways more than one.
The sessions were focused majorly on Substance Abuse, Taking Initiatives and Cyber Bullying, all of which are an integral part for a complete education vis-à-vis the changing times.
The Peer Educators, Executive Council Members (The Prefectorial Board) and five members from each of the houses participated in this training. Many students shared their concerns related to the topics discussed and shared ways of dealing with difficult situations. They understood that Life Skills are necessary skills to deploy almost in every segment and the challenges that we face in our life. Students unanimously decided to cascade their learning to their peers and other students. They will be conducting similar interactive sessions for the rest of the school to continue the chain of learning and educating.
This exercise gave our students yet another opportunity to perfect the essential 21st Century 6 key skills—communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, citizenship and character building.
