|Delfest … A Move from ‘Competition’ towards ‘Collaboration’|
Annual Inter-school Event at DLPS.
5th edition of Delfest– Celebrating Schools…Celebrating Innovations…, the path-breaking annual inter-school event at DLPS, was held on November 26, 2013 with participation of teachers and students from 16 select schools from Delhi and NCR. Mrs. Rittika Parruck, Assistant Director Schools, British Council, India, Ms. Nien Siao, Director, Pearl Academy, Noida, formed the esteemed panel of Judges for the Teachers’ Event on Transforming Pedagogy, ‘Thinking Beyond the Bubble’ and Ms. Kalpana Subramanayan award winning Film Maker and Mr. Puneet Kaura, leading photographer heading a Photo School at Gurgaon, were the judges for the students’ movie making event, ‘Pride…Reflection…Celebration’
It was no ordinary ‘festival’. Through Delfest, the school aimed to re-define the way schools compete with one another. The event attempted to break the myth that competition is necessary for success. Through Delfest, the school presented an alternative model of higher achievement where teams did not race to be No. 1; rather identified the ‘outstanding aspects’ of their performance. Contesting teams were awarded ‘stars’, not ‘points’, based various outstanding parameters of the performance.
The theme of the event was based on the current trends in education and the reforms being introduced by CBSE.
This first of its kind teacher event ‘Thinking Beyond the Bubble’ centered around the emerging concept of ‘Transforming Pedagogy’. Teacher teams from various schools presented and shared how they are transforming pedagogy in their classrooms. The innovative sharing platform encouraged collaborative learning from one another and built the capacity of teachers and so of their schools further.
Student Teams from various schools presented a movie that encapsulated how life at their school is contributing to the blossoming of learners in different ways, at various levels.
While the event celebrated innovations across schools, it celebrated the ‘change agents’ within teachers!
“ I am leaving DLPS’ with many ideas that can be used across India and perhaps the world, it was in fact a glimpse into future’, said the judge of the day, Ms Rittika Parruck.
